'Pride' is a hit!

We're thrilled with 'Pride' and the reception it has received. The film deals with the controversial subject of anti social behaviour and how different generations perceive this thorny subject. Every part of the film, from writing the script to working the lights was carried out by young people who also naturally take starring roles. The project was inspired by Brenda Easton who wanted to give young people themselves the opportunity to change negative perceptions of young people within the community.

The film was funded through the Northamptonshire County Council Empowering Councillors fund with Cllrs Julie Brookfield and John McGhee using their grants to support the project.

Cllr Brookfield commented "I hope many people of all ages in Northamptonshire have the opportunity to see the film Pride. It is thought provoking and breaks down barriers and stereotypes. I am pleased and proud to support the project."

The premier of "Pride" was held at The Corby Cube on February 10 and plans are now being made to show it in schools across the county. Young people will once again lead on this and will be going into schools to present their work.

Cllr McGee explained "This project is what I believe empowering councillors money is about, It enabled a group of young people to show that the majority of them are not hooligans, but normal young people as we were at that age, I hope this film helps people of all ages to treat each other with respect."

Groundworks, Corby Borough Council, and Northamptonshire Police all supported the work and at the Corby premier the JAM in the Hood team acted as ushers for the evening.

Detective Chief Inspector Tina Wetherall-Pegley commented: "Too often these days there are negative perceptions about young people and Pride raises some thought-provoking questions aimed at breaking down and challenging these barriers."

Eva Pope

23rd December

UK film School have recently completed a short film called 'PRIDE' filmed on location in Corby. The film which was commissioned by Northamptonshire County Council, Northampton Police and the charity Groundwork deals with the controversial subject of A.S.B.O's and how different generations view and feel about the subject.

'Pride' was filmed over the Oct half term with a group of young people from Corby. The group worked on the project over several weeks during October and November and got involved in all aspects of the process from producing, writing and directing to starring in the finished film.

The popular TV actress Eva Pope came along to meet the group and to give them tips and insights into her profession. We're planning a VIP screening of the film in the New Year so watch this space for details.
